"The writing on Rambling is outstanding: varied and imaginative... There's a beautiful warmth to Anderson's sound that suffuses the whole album."
Thomas Rees, Jazzwise

"memorable melodies, adeptly interwoven influences… unhurriedly stylish... (Anderson) can deliver an ear-catching tenor sax flourish, but knows the value of understatement and uses it well. This is solidly-crafted small group jazz that knows its history, but wears its learning lightly."
John Turney, London Jazz News

London-based saxophonist and Dankworth Prize-winning composer Matt Anderson presents his quartet touring their new, critically-acclaimed release 'Rambling' on Jellymould Jazz. Since its launch in June 2018 at the hotbed of the creative London jazz scene, the Vortex Jazz Club, the album has won praise from the likes of Jazzwise, BBC Radio 3 and Jazz FM for its "outstanding," melodic writing and "uniformly excellent playing", all fronted by Anderson's warm tenor sound. The band brings together seemingly distinct musical influences, for example exploring the common ground between the folk music reminiscent of Matt's rural upbringing in the North Yorkshire Moors, the bluesy, country strains of Bill Frisell and Scandinavian jazz, culminating in a lyrical and personal Afro-Celtic sound world.

The band has performed across the UK as well as appearing as finalists at the Keep an Eye International Jazz Competition at Amsterdam's Bimhuis. The new album follows Matt's debut, Wild Flower, which was described by Selwyn Harris of Jazzwise as "their own unique stamp on Shorter's very personal repertoire... of a quality that resonates with its inspirational source... Enjoyably un-pretentious."

Matt Anderson (Tenor and Soprano Saxophones):

Originally hailing from the North Yorkshire Moors, Matt released his debut album with his band Wild Flower in 2015 on the Jellymould Jazz label to widespread critical acclaim and airplay on BBC Radio 3 alongside a 13-date UK tour and launch gig at Pizza Express Dean Street, London. Winner of the Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition 2017, he is popular as a sideman in a variety of projects on the fertile London and Leeds jazz scenes, performing regularly across the UK and internationally with recent appearances in New Zealand and Scandinavia.

Alberto Palau Garcera (Piano):

Spanish pianist Alberto Palau Garcera studied classical piano at the Conservatorio Superior de Musica in Valencia before becoming interested in jazz and working with the great Perico Sambeat, eventually winning a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music and spending a year in New York. He relocated to London in 2016 to study at the Royal Academy of Music, and has recently toured with Peter Bernstein, Dick Oatts and Charles McPherson.

Will Harris (Double-Bass):

Will Harris' playing has put him in high demand in the South-West where he has been based for many years, and after moving to London two years ago to study at the Royal Academy of Music he is becoming an increasingly popular choice of bassist in the capital as well, with a recent appearance at Ronnie Scott's with trumpeter Nick Smart. He co-leads the band Moonlight Savings Time with his wife, jazz vocalist Emily Wright, and they released their debut album 'Meeting at Night' in 2015 to critical acclaim and an Arts Council England-supported UK tour.

Jay Davis (Drums):

Jay Davis is one of the most in-demand young drummers on the London scene, featuring for example as a co-leader of jazz/indie crossover band Big Bad Wolf alongside guitarist Rob Luft as well as in the Phil Meadows Project and Alex Hitchcock Quintet. He also leads his own band, Local Yokels, and has been the recipient of many awards including the Yamaha Jazz Scholar, John Scheerer and Sir Elton John Prizes.
